Air Force Birthday BBQ

Happy Birthday to Us!!  Like last year, we are co-hosting with the Air Force Sergeants Association an Air Force Birthday BBQ at the Veterans Home of California - Chula Vista.  The Home is located at 700 East Naples Court, Chula Vista, CA 91911.  There is a map on our website at http://sandiegoafa.org.  Since the event last year was such a success, and it really gave the Air Force veterans living there something to talk about, we decided to make this an annual event.  The BBQ will be on Saturday, September 19th, and it will start at 11:00 am.  The menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ chicken, salads, chips, and an Air Force birthday cake.  There will be a selection of beverages including beer and wine.  In addition to the birthday celebration, we will be recognizing our Chapter 118 Community Partners and award winners.  There is no charge for Chapter members and guests, but we do need to know how many people will be attending.  If you are planning on attending, please RSVP to our Treasurer, Dick Jeffreys, at 858.829.3799.  See you at the BBQ!

Chapter 118 Newsletter Distribution

At least once a year, we have to distribute our newsletter by postal mail to all Chapter members.  That newsletter will arrive as the next issue in the Fall. It is expensive to print and mail newsletters, so the other three issues each year will come by email to those members with current email addresses.  If you haven’t recently checked or updated your email address in your AFA profile, please do so, so you don’t miss future newsletters.  We use the current membership roster provided by AFA Headquarters and modify it based upon any “do not send” messages that we receive from members.  You can also subscribe or unsubscribe from our newsletters via this email at any time. For any other issues please contact our VP/Communications, Bill McCarroll.

Chapter 118 Community Partners

One of our objectives this year is to significantly increase the number our Community Partners (CP).  The CP program is one way we can incorporate local businesses and organizations into our program and get information on Air Force activities to a wider group of people.  Dick Jeffreys, our VP/Community Partners, has been trying to contact Chapter members with business or organization email addresses in our current membership roster, but most of the email addresses are no longer valid and the related office phones numbers are also bad.  If you are currently working and think your company or organization would be a good CP prospect or are retired and want to suggest a prospect, please contact Dick either by email (rjeffreys2@san.rr.com) or phone at 858.829.3799.  If you don’t want to be the point of contact, please provide appropriate contact information.  Thanks for your help.

Get involved in your local AFA Chapter

Your Chapter 118 Officers, invite you to come to one of our monthly Chapter meetings and get involved with your local San Diego Chapter. The meetings are a great way to meet your fellow AFA members and learn what's new, you may even discover a long lost friend, it happens all the time. We're involved in numerous activities in the community to promote Air Force issues and support educational initiatives. Your involvement can be as light or heavy as you want it to be, no pressure. From time to time, we schedule guest speakers to speak to the members on current issues or to provide a personal perspective of events in our military history. We also partner with local chapters of other military organizations to leverage our combined networks and talents. So, plan to attend one of our future meetings. Check our website or e-mail or call one of the officers for information.
